October is a time that’s always full of things to do. With traditional parades, food festivals and as much art as you can handle. Foodies will find a lot to get stuck into too, with plenty of seasonal delicacies to try including the gorgeous truffle, porcini mushrooms and the famous local chestnut. Here’s look at all the events you can enjoy.

Events and Things to Do in Florence, October 2025

HISTORIC COSTUME PARADE, 8th OCTOBER

Every year, on the 8th October there’s a parade in historic costume in Florence city centre. The parade leaves from Piazza di Parte Guelfa at 3:45pm and reaches the crypt of the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral. The 8th October is when Florence celebrates Santa Reparata, a martyr to whom the city has been devoted since the V century.

Under the Cathedral you can still see the remains of the ancient church of Santa Reparata – with a combined ticket for the Baptistry, Opera del Duomo Museum, and Santa Reparata that you buy on the official site.

ART EXHIBITS & MARKETS

The exhibit entirely dedicated to Beato Angelico at Palazzo Strozzi is probably the most awaited by many art lovers. Hundreds of wondrous works by this famous friar and Renaissance master are finally reunited in Florence, where he worked decorating the San Marco Convent under the patronage of the Medici family. It’s on from 26th September 2025 to 25th January 2026.

The Florence Biennale is the major contemporary art exhibition in Florence, showcasing international contemporary artists, and hosted in the Spadolini Pavillon in the Fortezza da Basso. This year the Biennale’s theme is “The Sublime Essence of Light and Darkness. Concepts of Dualism and Unity in Contemporary Art and Design”. American director Tim Burton will receive an Award to celebrate his career. The Biennale is on from 18th to 26th October 2025.

On 19th October 2025 the city’s traditional market ‘fierucolina’ in Piazza Santo Spirito brings some of Autumn’s flavour to the table. In this lively square in the Oltrarno, you’ll find stalls selling local organic food from nearby farms, and handicrafts.

Don’t forget that on Tuesday morning you can follow the locals to the Cascine market along the Arno river.

At Innocenti Museum an exhibit that takes you to Paris of the Belle Époque. See the works of Iconic painter, illustrator and graphic innovator, Toulouse Lautrec captured the nightlife and bohemian spirit of late 19th century Montmartre, Paris (27th September 2025 – 22nd February 2026).

Top Events in Tuscany October 2025

IMPRUNETA, San Luca Fair

Every year in October the small town of Impruneta (half an hour south of Florence) hosts the popular Fiera di San Luca – from 11th to 19th October 2025. This fair has been coming to Impruneta since the Middle Ages, when merchants and shepherds would meet to buy and sell livestock and produce. Impruneta was (and still is) famous for its terracotta production.

It’s a lively week full of events, traditional games and a big market where you find everything from clothes to typical local specialities. On the occasion of this fair, the loggia in Piazza Buondelmonti hosts the creations of local artisans.

CHIANTI REGION

If you’re the active type, you might want to have a look at L’Eroica in Gaiole in Chianti, a non-competitive vintage bike race along the strade bianche (or unpaved country roads) of the Chianti. It takes place this year on 4th and 5th October 2025 (See the official site for information about the routes). The Ecomaratona del Chianti (17th-19th October 2025) is another great way to get fit while exploring the scenic rolling hills of the Chianti, with three trails (42k, 21k, 13k).

Mushroom, Chestnut and other FOOD FESTIVALS around Tuscany

The beautiful Medieval hilltop town of Certaldo hosts the traditional Boccaccesca Food & Wine Festival from 9th-12th October 2025 (more info of their FB page).

The Mount Amiata area is famous for the top-quality ‘marroni’, a local variety of chestnut. For chestnut festivals head to Arcidosso the last two weekends of October – 17th-19th and 24th-26th October 2025.

Abbadia San Salvadore has a great Autumn Fair – 10th-12th and 17th-19th October 2025 – celebrating not only chestnuts but also mushrooms and local products with plenty of food stands for every taste. Piancastagnaio boasts the most ancient of chestnut festivals, the “Crastatone” (31st October-2nd November).

Mushroom Festival at Bagnolo, Santa Fiora: 4th-5th and 11th-12th October 2025.

Chestnut Fairs in Marradi and Palazzuolo sul Senio (every week end in October) in the Mugello area. Or the small hamlet of Caprese Michelangelo on the last two weekends of October – there’s another reason to visit, this is the place where Michelangelo Buonarroti was born!

Campiglia d’Orcia organises the Festa del Marrone on the 26th October 2025, where the village dresses up in festive colours and you can taste typical dishes and treats of all sorts.

Porcini Mushroom and Steak Festival at Noceta, near Castiglion Fiorentino (near Arezzo) – from 3rd to 5th October 2025.

On 25th-26th October 2025 the town of Barberino di Mugello (north of Florence) hosts the Truffle Festival (Mostra Mercato del Tartufo Bianco e Nero del Mugello), showcasing the excellent local truffle varieties (25th and 26th October 2025).

Volterragusto is an important truffle and local food festival held in the hilltop town of Volterra from 26th October – 2nd November 2025. Expect cultural events, food tasting and on 27th October 2025 at 3.30pm there’s the traditional Palio dei Caci, a ‘cheese wheel rolling competition’ where participants from the different districts of the town chase the cheeses down Volterra’s narrow streets.

On the first two weekends in October 2025, the small hamlet of Caldana, Gavoranno (Grosseto province) hosts the Autumn Food Festival, with local seasonal delicacies, including polenta, chestnut, mushrooms, wild boar.
